Google has launched an innovative browser plugin called Google Sidewiki.

It basically allows visitors of any website to click their Sidewiki button and comment on what they are seeing and provide further information.

It allows others with Sidewiki to read these comments, and ideally, be benefited by it in some way, shape or form.

See the following promo video, then refer to my comments below:

Finally a Google innovation I am not sure about.

While I am a big fan of opening up the web, websites remain the only avenue for businesses to promote their thoughts. Wiki-ing it up opens it up for competitors and spammers to sidewiki all sorts of garbage that may or may not affect the business or product or service being described in the main body.

Funnily, the browser plugin is not available for Google's own browser - Chrome - yet. But to download Sidewiki and have a play on Firefox or Internet Explorer, click here.

Craig is right that it is not new. AddATweet (http://www.addatweet.com/) is one that is a similar, and very cool, product. As is Kuntano (http://www.kutano.com/). But, with all due respect, when Google does it, it means they will make it highly accessible and accessed due to their reach.

I also agree it is better to wiki it all up. By the way Damien, it is not new. There have been similar plugins in the past.

Mate, I reckon the more open the better. This is a great initiative.
